Most romantic Valentine’s Day Ideas for Busy Parents

Are you a working parent with not much help from the family or friends but you want to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Read on to see my topmost romantic ideas for busy working parents.

These ideas are for those couples that haven’t got an option of going out and have to rely on the time after the kids had gone to sleep.Valentine's Day

We have been parents for over 10 years now (married 12 years nearly) and we never had a chance to just leave the kids with relatives or friends and do the things regular couples do.

So we improvise and celebrate at home (once the kids are fast asleep).

But this does not mean you cannot make this day a little more special than any other day and bring some romance to the table.

The key is the preparation and if you plan it well, the evening can be very special indeed. Also, make sure you put the kids to bed early enough to enjoy some time alone.

So here are my top most romantic Valentine’s Day ideas for busy parents!

The Gift

Valentine Day gift

Make sure you have some gift for your other half. It is always nice to give something to your loved one and to receive a present too.

Regardless of your budget, you can get something nice and here are some ideas for Him and Her that I suggest you get ahead of time so you are not rushing around trying to get it #thelastminute.com

For Him

Fragrance– this is a very personal choice and you know best what your hubby likes. My husband’s favourite is Black XS by Pacco Rabbane which has fruity sweet and woodsy notes that I too absolutely love. For a cheaper alternative, I recommend the classic with peppermint, musk and amber notes- Cool Water by Davidoff.

Grooming sets– The sets are cute little presents that are essential for every well looked after man. I recommend the manicure set which is inexpensive and stainless steel so will last forever.

Beard care set– recently I have gifted my husband beard care set by Bulldog and he loves it. The scent is very pleasant and it really softens the beard. Also not too pricey and Certified Cruelty Free.

Costume– If your partner is up for some fun, you can give him this waiter costume. Not sure who will enjoy this one more, you or him 😉

For Her

Fragrance- again this is a personal choice and my absolute favourite that I like only for date nights is Femme by Hugo Boss with blackcurrant and tangerine. Is not too expensive but as a  cheaper alternative is Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker with top notes of lavender and apple martini.

Jewellery– This one is totally depending on your budget as jewellery comes at all sorts of prices. And ladies do like jewellery. New pair of earrings or a ring never hurts! Just saying!

Lingerie– Again dependant on your budget and style you are looking for, there are so many choices out there. From elegant and classic, to something sexy to a bit kinky underwear. You could also get a sexy costume for a role play after 😉 You know your partner best and what they would actually feel comfortable wearing.

And don’t forget the card and flowers (and some chocolates too).

Mutual gifts- more ideas that could suit him or her

Board games

The love Jar

Erotic dice

Playing cards

Valentine keychains

These are just few ideas that are my favourites. Books are also good gifts for those that like reading.

The meal and some booze

You could prepare the meal for just two of you and if you would have already eaten the dinner with the kids you can have a little power salad or dessert only.

If you have no time to cook, either get a take-away or cook a few days in advance and freeze the meal so that you can just heat it up on the day.

If you are up for a bit of bubbly the Prosecco would be an ideal choice or if you like some nice cocktails here is the link for a quick and easy cocktail recipe. If you prepare ahead you can get the necessary ingredients to prepare it on the day. I recommend Sex on The Beach or Blue Lagoon.

The outfit

Don’t forget to look and feel fabulous and sexy. After all, this is supposed to be the night to remember 😉

Wear your favourite outfit that you have in your wardrobe (or shop ahead of time) and don’t forget some nice underwear as you never know, you might get lucky that night (if you know what I mean;-). It wouldn’t hurt to put some little/ or add some more if you already have some make-up, just so you feel a little more special. Here I found a quick makeup tutorial you could try out.

The room setup

If you can, set up a little table for two in the middle of your kitchen/ living room or bedroom (depending on the space availability in your house) and decorate the table with some romantic detail.

This doesn’t have to be too fancy or too expensive and if you haven’t got the budget for this you could improvise and use whatever you have in the house. Use some curtains or bed sheets if you don’t have any tablecloth. You could cut out heart shapes from a white paper or some old birthday cards (or old valentine cards if you kept it) and sprinkle them around the table. Use your nicest plates set.

Don’t forget some scented candles as it just creates a romantic atmosphere and adds some lovely smell to the room. You can also place more candles around the room so you don’t have to put the actual light on. If you want to spend some more money, gets some decorations from the cards or arts& crafts shops.

Balloons look really nice or even ribbons. That’s if you like to be a little ODT.

The music

Play some nice, quiet, romantic music in the background that will just add a little sensory touch to the day. If you don’t have a music player, use your phone or even a radio station that plays some mellow music. Or you can play it from YouTube, just remember there will be ads popping in every so often.

Play a game

If you are both up for some fun, the great start to a romantic night is to play a game. I am not talking Monopoly or Scrabbles! I am talking about games that lead to more fun afterwards 😉

Why not try the erotic dice which are so much fun to play (trust me).

Another fun thing to play is a flirting Cards where you pick between Talk, Flirt or Dare with no complicated rules, just fun! Not expensive yet such a great conversation starter.

One more suggestion is Know Your Partner Board Game. This is a game for 2+ couples so if you happen to have some friends over that night, this is a perfect game to play together. The game has some intimate questions so you must be prepared and comfortable enough around the couple you’re hosting. Otherwise, things can get a little embarrassing and awkward.

Set up a romantic bath for your partner

This would be a treat for a tired person especially after a long day at work. So you can set the bath up for your other half and go off to prepare the other things whilst they have a bath. Or you can stay in and give a little massage while they are in the bath.

Lots of bubbles and candles are a must to create a romantic atmosphere.

This idea will be appreciated anytime- even on a regular day.

Breakfast in bed

This one is for those that work at night or cannot meet in the evening. A small card with a little gift next to breakfast served in bed would be just as much appreciated if the evenings are not an option. There is no excuse not to celebrate Valentine’s Day for parents weather in the morning or the evening.

Other things to do

Another Valentine’s Day idea for busy parents is that you do not have to have a dinner/meal at all.

You can substitute it for snacks on the sofa while watching some romantic movie. You can play something nice on Netflix/ Amazon Prime or maybe even they have some nice movies on the TV (usually they do have some romantic comedies playing on Valentine Days). When you are a parent, watching a movie together is already a treasure so cherish those moments together.

On the Valentine’s Day remember to start the mood early and send a text or an email to him/her building up the mood. You can let them know about your excitement for a date night and how much you look forward to it.

Also, don’t forget to compliment and appreciate your partner on the day, and also any other day. It’s nice to hear how much you care and love each other not only on Valentine’s Day but every day.

Conclusion

Being a parent does not mean the fun is over and Valentine’s Day is a perfect opportunity to bring some romance back into the relationship. The key is to prepare ahead so that both of you can have fun and enjoy the quality time together.

What are your favourite ideas on Valentine’s Day for parents? Do you have any tips I have not covered in the post? I would love to hear it so please leave a comment below.
