My ACCA journey in the UK

Let me tell you about My Acca Journey in the UK

I am an ACCA accountant and just if you’re not sure what it means- it’s an accounting qualification that stands for Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

This is a globally recognised accounting qualification so no matter where in the world you go, it will be recognised and you are ready to start your accounting career anywhere in the world.

If you prefer to watch this here is the link to my YouTube video:

I have qualified in July 2019 and I would like to tell you about my journey as I believe everyone’s journey is different and I hope I inspire you to keep going or to motivate you to even start if that’s what you are wondering right now.

ACCA truly opens up the door to so many opportunities and I believe is one of the most rewarding and versatile professions of all.

Disclaimer: I might be a little bias as there are other accounting qualifications out there, so I’m only sharing my experiences here, not discrediting any other types of accounting qualifications.

My journey

I have studied accounting and finance in the Uni where I have gained 9 exemptions so I had to sit 5 professional papers (at this moment there are only 4 professional papers to sit). Remember you also need to complete the PER’s and have 36 months of professional experience in the field. I have not mentioned this in the video hence adding this here.

It took me 6 fails before I manage to complete just the P papers so it was a very stressful and long ACCA journey but nevertheless I am very happy I had gone through it.

I studied whilst being a mum, a full-time employee, a wife and still managing all of it plus the studies in the evening.

Over the time I was studying I went through many resources which I talked about in my previous post, if you would like to find out more please read this article:

ACCA study resources for UK students

But by far the best one I have used was Acowtancy and this is when I really started to enjoy studying.

I had a lot of support

My husband was my biggest supporter and he was the one who kept on cheering me on the journey. Each time I was about to give up he would calm me down and talked me out of it. He knew I would one day regret if I was to give up.

He also helped around the house and the kids so that I could study.

My mum too helped although she did too work full time so she had very limited time

Study time

On his website Acowtancy I already mentioned above, Richard (the founder) talked about the importance of studying every day. So I followed this advice religiously. I studied every day in small chunks going through the material and recapping every three-four days to keep the knowledge in my head.

Also, I could only study in the evening due to children being at home and work schedule.

It was a struggle

Although it was a struggle and a lot of stress I must say this is the one thing I am so so proud of and would do it all over again if I had to.

My life has changed ever since.

It’s been two years since I have qualified and there are so many things I have achieved ever since.

I do talk a lot about it on my YouTube channel so please check it out and join my YouTube fam

Thank you so much for reading.
