My top 7 tips on how to travel with kids.

Let’s face it- travelling with kids (at least with more than one) is not a pleasant experience and holiday with them is rather 24/7 Keep Your Eyes Open And Be Prepared To Be Drained time after which you feel like you need a week off from everything just to recover! At least I feel like that.travelling with kids

After my last trip to Poland, I have come up with few ideas on how such a trip can be made a little less stressful:

1. Set off early

just in case there is a traffic or you need to stop over the service station for a toilet break. This at least gives you enough time for such eventuality and you won’t get stressed out and panic that you might miss your flight.

2. Take some snacks with you.

My kids sit down for at least a few minutes quietly once given a snack and especially when queuing up at the gates or security it’s easier to manage them if they have a little nibble. Also, try to give them savoury as opposed to sweet snacks as once the sugar rush kicks in- you’re in trouble 😉snacks

3. Get them showered and refreshed before the travel.

In case of long travel time or delays, you won’t need to worry about it once you get to the end destination. Also, kids usually get very excited and the last thing that’s on their mind is to get bathed and they end up staying up until they drop.

4. Stay calm and patient

I know it’s not a physical thing you can just take with you, but try to relax and calm down before you set off.

Travelling, waiting, sitting down for a prolonged period or queuing up can be very distressful and exhausting experience even especially fro kids. The more calm and collect your stay, the easier it will be to keep them managed.

Kids sense when you’re stress out and subconsciously act in a similar way. Each time that your patience is running out take a deep breath, try to remember that they are just kids and can’t control and manage their emotions as easily as adults.

5. Try to book late flights

so that the kids can sleep through the flight time.

Yes, it will be hard to wake them up once landed, and you will probably be the last to vacate the plane, but at least they won’t be running around disturbing other passengers.

Trust me- I have done the day flights and many people don’t appreciate children running up and down the aeroplane or trying to interact with them.

6. Take a bookreading book

so you can read it to them on the plane or one of their favourite toys to stop them from getting bored. As much as I’m not a big supporter of tablets, it does come handy to have some cartoons downloaded ready to be played anytime they are bored.

7. Dress them in layers

Even in the summer it can get a little cold in airconditioned areas so be prepared to add on or take off some layers of clothes.

Once on board of the aeroplane, you can ask a cabin crew to give you the blanket to cover them up once asleep.

8. Use luggage that is easy to roll

or even those that kids can just pull or sit on and ride. I love Trunkie as they look cool and are so easy to just pull, or my son loves to sit and just ride it through the airport.

They are also very compact, spacious and look very cool.

One thing for sure is that travelling with kids will drain you and won’t be easy but the more organised you get pre-travel the easier it will be to travel.

Just remember that they are little only for a short while and will get older and easier to manage (at least I would like to think so ;-))

Do you have any tips on how to survive the travel with kids?
